Fraudsters Impersonate CINTAA Officials, Cheat Mahima Gaur of ₹50,500
Actress Mahima Gaur fell victim to a cyber scam where fraudsters impersonated CINTAA representatives. The scammers tricked her into transferring ₹50,500 for a fake lifetime membership. Police are investigating the incident.
Mahima Gaur, a 24-year-old actress residing in Hyderabad’s Kundanbagh area, recently became a target of an elaborate cyber scam. The fraudsters, posing as officials from the Cine and TV Artists Association (CINTAA), convinced Mahima to pay ₹50,500 for a fraudulent membership.
The incident began on December 6 when Mahima received a call from a man claiming to be producer Ranjan Shahi. He introduced her to a woman named Anita, who posed as the HR Director from CINTAA. The duo claimed Mahima could secure a lifetime CINTAA membership for ₹50,500. Trusting their credentials, Mahima transferred the amount in three installments to a specified bank account.
However, suspicions arose when the fraudsters demanded additional payments. Realizing something was amiss, Mahima promptly contacted the Cyber Helpline for assistance. Acting swiftly, police managed to block ₹20,200 from reaching the fraudsters’ account. A formal complaint was registered, and a detailed investigation is now underway to track the culprits.
This incident highlights the growing concern over cyber fraud targeting individuals in the entertainment industry. Cybercrime officials have advised aspiring actors and celebrities to verify offers and memberships before making payments to prevent falling prey to such scams.
Mahima Gaur’s case serves as a stark reminder of the increasing risks posed by cyber scams. Aspiring actors are urged to remain vigilant, verify sources, and avoid financial transactions without proper authentication.
