Once a Beloved Comedienne on Telugu Screens, Actress Vasuki Now Struggles to Survive

Actress Vasuki, once known for her distinctive comedic roles in Telugu cinema, is now in a state of emotional and financial distress. Widely recognized for her role as “Pakeezah” in the film Assembly Rowdy, Vasuki revealed that she is currently living in extreme hardship, sometimes even resorting to begging to make ends meet.

Having failed to receive support in Tamil Nadu, she came to Andhra Pradesh in the hope that the state government would provide some assistance. Speaking to media representatives in Guntur during her visit to the Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada, Vasuki expressed deep anguish and placed her hopes on Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan.

“I have sent videos explaining my situation to many actors in Tamil Nadu, but none of them responded,” said Vasuki. “However, the families of Chiranjeevi, Nagababu, and Mohan Babu from the Telugu film industry supported me. If they hadn’t come to my aid, I would have died long ago.”

Originally from Karaikudi in Tamil Nadu, Vasuki gained significant popularity through her role in Assembly Rowdy, starring Mohan Babu. She went on to act in several successful films such as Rowdygari PellamPedarayudu, and Annamayya. During the peak of her career, she entered politics at the invitation of then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and joined the AIADMK party, gradually distancing herself from the film industry.

Vasuki also recounted personal tragedies, stating that her life took a downturn after marrying a man named Rajkumar. She said she suffered harassment from her in-laws and claimed that her husband, addicted to alcohol, squandered their property. She added that her husband later died by suicide, after which her in-laws expelled her from their home. Vasuki said she spent her remaining savings on treatment for her mother, who was suffering from cancer. She expressed sorrow that after the death of her political mentor Jayalalithaa, she was left without support.

“Telugu people are the ones who have fed me. Now it is the Chief Ministers of the Telugu states who must come to my aid. I want to meet Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan to share my plight. If I am given a pension, I will live the rest of my life remembering their names with gratitude. If needed, I am ready to travel from village to village campaigning for them,” Vasuki appealed.
