Kadambari Jethwani case: AG Opposes Anticipatory Bail for Accused Police Officers

Kadambari Jatwani Case: AG Seeks Custodial Interrogation of Accused Officers

The High Court has refused pre-arrest bail to senior police officers implicated in the controversial Kadambari Jethwani case. The court emphasized the necessity of custodial interrogation to uncover the alleged conspiracy.

Key Developments:

  • High Court Proceedings:
The High Court heard pre-arrest bail pleas from IPS officers Kanthi Rana Tata, Vishal Gunni, former Vijayawada West Zone ACP Hanumantha Rao, and former Ibrahimpatnam CI M. Satyanarayana.
  • Advocate General’s Stand:
Advocate General (AG) Dammalapati Srinivas opposed the bail requests, stressing that detaining and questioning the accused is crucial to exposing the conspiracy behind Jethwani’s illegal arrest and alleged custodial torture.
  • Accusations Against Officials:
Jethwani’s legal team, represented by advocates Vasireddy Prabhudas and Narra Srinivasa Rao, claimed that former Intelligence DG Seetharamanjaneyulu orchestrated the wrongful arrest. They asserted that officers traveled to Mumbai under his instructions, arrested Jethwani and her family, and brought them to Vijayawada.
  • Defense Arguments:
Senior advocates Sriram, Vinod Kumar, Deshpande, and Pattabhi countered, arguing that a prior case against Jethwani involving alleged land fraud is still unresolved. They questioned the legality of registering a new case based on her complaint while the original case remains active.
  • Bail Context:
The defense also highlighted that Kukkala Vidyasagar, the first accused in the land forgery case, has already secured bail. They urged the court to consider similar relief for the petitioners.

Kadambari Jatwani Case: Justice VRK Krupasagar scheduled the next hearing for December 19, extending the interim order preventing immediate action against the petitioners.
