The highly anticipated web series Stranger Things, which has captured a global audience, successfully completed four full seasons and built immense hype for its final act. The season has been divided and released in volumes. The latest installment, Volume 2, consists of three episodes. Let’s see how this volume holds up in our Stranger Things Web Series Review.

Story: Stranger Things Season 5 Review
Picking up from the previous episodes, this volume shows Will (Noah Schnapp)’s friends and family (those close to him) in shock after he gains new powers. From there, his companions believe he can not only control the Demogorgons sent by Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) but also Vecna himself.

Meanwhile, in the Upside Down, Dustin (Gaten Matarazzo), Steve Harrington (Joe Keery), and the gang are on a hunt to find where Vecna is truly operating from and its real base of operations. On another front, Max (Sadie Sink) and Mike’s sister Holly Wheeler (Nell Felder) are among the twelve children captured by Vecna and become trapped in his world.

Furthermore, what experiments did the Hawkins defense team conduct on the imprisoned Kali (Linnea Berthelsen)? Why are they so desperate for Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) again? What is Vecna’s ultimate plan? Did Max return? What is the plan hatched by friends and family to permanently stop Vecna? These narratives unfold across these three episodes.

Plus Points: Stranger Things Season 5 Review
Without a doubt, these three balanced episodes continue to be a feast for fans. However, as this is the final season and these episodes are stepping stones to the ending, the storytelling feels more emotionally charged this time, allowing the series to connect with fans on a deeper level.

Furthermore, seeing the entire team, separated in the last four episodes, reunite feels more complete and is a true emotional high. Additionally, some scenes are thrilling from a scientific perspective this time. The scenes and emotions between Dustin and Steve are a treat for their combo fans. Also, the emotional take on Will’s role in the third episode is well done.

Along with this, the solid climax portions in the first two episodes excite viewers. Mainly, Will’s ability to control and injure Vecna exhilarates fans. Similarly, the track focusing on Max and Holly Wheeler is decent. For the most part, the fact that all character tracks are balanced with good emotions is impressive in these three episodes.

Minus Points: Stranger Things Season 5 Review
In these three episodes, the emotional parts take up a bit more space, making the dose of more exciting and adventurous moments feel slightly reduced. Maintaining this a bit more balanced would have been better. Also, some moments feel slightly dragged.

The dialogues between Jonathan and Nancy could have been trimmed. Similarly, the VFX work this time also doesn’t feel top-notch. Furthermore, after presenting Will so powerfully in the previous fourth episode, expectations from his role increased. Some who hoped for more exciting things from his side might be a bit disappointed. Along with this, if the third episode had ended with a solid cliffhanger leading into the final episode, it would have been better.

Technical Team:
Since the entire season was released at once, the production values appear maintained in the style of the previous four episodes. The music work in these episodes is even more effective. Kyle Dixon and Michael Stein have further elevated some scenes with their score. The camera work is also solid. The editing by Dean Zimmerman and Kathryn Naranjo is good, though some scenes could have been shorter.

Directors The Duffer Brothers and Shawn Levy have delivered good work. They have well-maintained the emotional core and the friendship elements that series fans crave in these three episodes. However, adding a few more thrilling moments would have been better. Apart from this, their work in these three episodes is impressive.

Verdict: Stranger Things Season 5 Review
Overall, it must be said that these three episodes from Stranger Things Season 5: Volume 2 provide fans with a decent treat. The lead actors deliver fine emotional moments, and nearly all the elements this series’ fans crave are neatly maintained. However, a bit of action and thrill seems missing. Setting that aside, these three episodes provide the necessary momentum for the last episode. So, definitely watch these 3 episodes and wait for the final bang.
